Creationism in Science Classes
Intelligent Design/Anti-Evolution Efforts
Currently, Religious Right groups are waging campaigns to discredit evolution as a scientific theory and to limit or eliminate its teaching in public schools. These attacks may take the form of the weakening of science standards, the inclusion of required written disclaimers in textbooks or verbal disclaimers by teachers before any teaching of evolution can take place, or as proposals that “alternative theories,” such as intelligent design, be taught side-by-side with evolution in the science class. These attacks are a dangerous threat to religious freedom and science education in America.
